GotZ player guide

(guide is work in progress)

The Board

The board is a 12×12 layout of ether tiles. There are 4 types of ether {void, burn, ruling and high}.

2 players with each player managing 37 celestial pieces {1 sun, 12 houses, 12 planets and 12 zodiac).
Pyramid, planet and zodiac station is indicated by roman numerals 1-12.

Objective

Dominate the board by overtaking the opposing sun.
Player wins when opponet’s sun energy reaches 0.

Energy

Suns have 9 energy, Pyramids have 3 energy, Planets have 5 energy, Zodiac has 2 energy.
piece card notation: [++] Resets energy, [+] adds energy, [-] subtracts energy
elements that add energy are supporting. elements that subtract energy are contrasting.

Sun | Pyramid
When a storm hits a sun – if relative pyramid has energy the pyramid will take damage; if the pyramid is lost the sun takes the damage.
Pyramid energy is reset when zodiac crowns planet of same station.

Zodiac | Planet
If all of an element’s pyramid houses are lost – Zodiacs of relative element become disarmed and will take damage from their contrasting high element.
Zodiac and relative Planet energy and position is reset to origin when the zodiac crowns the sun.

Each planet has a supporting ruling element that adds to and contrasting ruling element that subtracts from its energy..

Turns

Player’s turn is indicated by numbers {1, 2}
Modality turn is indicated by highlighted position on modality clock.
Elemental turn is directly related to the first ether tile selected to move.

Moving

Player selects any ether element, then selects the coordinal direction {north, east, south, west} to shift that element to.
Ether tiles can only be moved to the position of an adjacent ether tile.
!North is direction player faces -> or <- and the direction the patterns are cast.

The sun moves every turn
The planets are moved by relative ruling and high element.
The zodiac are moved by relatvie high element.
Planets and zodiac also move in relation to their modality position {fixed, cardinal, mutable}
The pyramids are unmoving.

Moving bodies move in the direction the ether element is moved.
Moving bodies wrap around the map and traverse across holes in the ether!

Retrograde
Retrograde occurs when planet shares same space as sun . Planets in retrograde move in opposite direction than ether is moved.

Elements | Ether

Void
distinguished by circle engraved
{Void – grey}

Burn
{Black sun – white burn; White sun – black burn}

Ruling elements
distinguished by circle engraved
{Air – yellow; Fire – red; Water -blue; Matter – brown}

High elements
distinguished by octagon engraved
{Sound – orange; Light – purple; Spirit – indigo; Being – green}

Relative
Air – Sound; Fire – Light; Water – Spirit; Matter – Being

Burns

When a sun moves to an ether tile, it will burn the tile.
White sun burns ether black, black sun burns ether white.
Any ether can be burned -even the burn of the opposing sun!

Stealing burn.
Stealing burn disallows opponent from being able to house those burn.
tip: when opposing player is about to house your burn, to move the burn away.

Tuning an Element

House a burned ether of the opposing player.
move burned ether to the space under a pyramid will tune the element into one that can be transmuted.

A tuned element is embeded with it’s cast pattern.

Transmute an Element

When a tuned element (regardless of who tuned it) sits in the same space as its relative planet or zodiac, the element’s pattern is casted across the ether elements flipping then to the transmuted element type. !Burned ether can not be flipped by elemental pattern. burns must be tuned (see Tuning an Element) or disolved (see Holes in the Ether).

A transmutation can occur actively when moving the ether to the space of a celestial, or passively when celestial moves to space of tuned element.

Storms

Storms are created when a tuned element sits in same space as non-relative planet or zodiac.

Holes in the Ether

When a line of burns (any burns) streatches across the ether- the line of burns is disolved and those positions are holes.
